Sonam Kapoor delivers timely surprise

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

It’s a rare occasion when a Bollywood celebrity chooses to show up at the appointed time in the star-starved city. Sonam Kapoor not only made sure she was on time, but also ensured that Salvatore Ferragamo, the organisers of the socialite evening where she made an appearance, stuck to the time- table.Kapoor, who was in Delhi to promote the cause of breast cancer awareness in association with Ogaan and the luxury fashion label, made a quiet appearance, literally.Much before most of the guests could arrive, Kapoor made her twominute speech on how women needed to be more aware of problems affecting their health and left immediately after lighting the lamps placed on the mighty walls of DLF Emporio, Vasant Kunj.

Sonam wore a figure-hugging black dress from Salvatore Ferragamo’s latest collection, and teamed it with six- inch heels from the fashion label’s Crystallised collection. The Cage Heel shoes are now available for auction at Ferragamo’s store in DLF Emporio, and is priced at Rs 1,36,000. Kapoor paraded in these heels, as the other models showcased an evening clutch, sneakers and tees with Ferragamo’s logo on them. The proceeds of the auction will go to the Ogaan Cancer Foundation. The party picked up from the moment Kapoor made her exit. The who’s who of Delhi’s social circuit showed up for the party; most of them came wearing pink – the dress code of the night.

Dior’s Kalyani Chawla wore a lovely pink ruffled jacket and praised her competition for coming up with the brilliant idea of marrying a cause with a fashion night. She couldn’t stop herself from adding: “Dior has been doing these events for a long time.” As many as 20 brands housed in DLF Emporio are supporting the cause by showcasing the products they would like to put up on auction for the charity. So, are we going to see more upmarket venues like DLF Emporio coming up in the city? DLF Entertainment head Pia Singh was at her enigmatic best. “Wait and watch,” she said.Food from Zest and On The Go, paired with Grey Goose vodka, kept the guests in good humour. And Sonal Kalra kept them entertained with her throaty renditions of ballads as well as jazz and gospel numbers during the ramp show.

Fer- ragamo’s regional director for south- east Asia, Prasanna Bhaskar, was clearly overwhelmed by the crooner’s performance. “It has all the elements that are necessary to make the evening special,” she said.”The cause will gain much from her wonderful voice.” Thanks to the chill in the air and the frenetic pace of the social calendar, the party wound up by 11. It was a rare occasion for the luxury mall where such evenings are known to go on forever.
