A day after producers of two big budget films—Karan Johar’s Saif Ali Khan-starrer Kurbaan and Anil Sharma’s Salman Khan-starrer Veer—cancelled shooting schedules in Pune due to the spread of the H1N1 Flu in that city, two producers said their films, scheduled to open this weekend, will have delayed openings in parts of Maharashtra. UTV Motion Pictures’ highly-anticipated Kaminey and Indian Film Company’s Life Partner, won’t open in parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, a major box-office market as well as the nerve centre of Bollywood.
The government of Maharashtra has ordered cinemas to remain shut for three days to prevent the spread of the flu. Schools, colleges and other educational institutions have been asked to shut for a week. At last count, 17 people have succumbed to the flu across India, of which, ten have been from Maharashtra—two in Mumbai and eight in Pune.
UTV Motion Pictures CEO Sidharth Roy Kapur told AFP that the company is insured against such delays.
