Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley had recently filed a police complaint against two websites for uploading obscene morphed images of her for promotion of products.

One of the erring websites is the popular gadgets blog, Gizmodo.com, and the other, a Bollywood site.

This is just the latest in numerous incidents where Indian actresses have been the target of digital image manipulation.

Last year, southern actress Nayanthara alleged that her rivals were circulating a fake MMS clip showing her in a compromising position with actor Silambarasan Rajendar (Simbu).

Many other southern actresses have been victims of such manipulated videos. The victim list includes Trisha Krishnan, Jyothika and Namitha

Amongst Bollywood actresses an explicit clip supposedly featuring Mallika Sherawat and another of Preity Zinta, were actually of the actresses' lookalikes.

In 2006, the Indian edition of Maxim got embroiled in controversy when Khushboo filed a defamation suit against it for carrying a morphed image of the southern actress in a red transparent bikini along with a derogatory caption.

Even during the early days of the internet in India, manipulated images were a big hit online. Some pronographic websites solely survived on morphed images of popular Bollywood actresses.

An image of Pooja Bhatt, created quite a wave in 1997 when Stardust magazine carried it along with the headline "Scoop of the Month: Actresses caught NUDE in the net."
