Kaushik teams up with schools to Promote film on teen pregnancy

Filmmaker Satish Kaushik has teamed up with 50 schools in New Delhi and screened his forthcoming film Teree Sang for the principals so that they can coax their students to watch the film, which aims to spread awareness about unprotected sex and teen pregnancies.

Kaushik's reason for choosing the capital is because that is where the maximum number of sex scandals are emerging in schools. In the past, the city has been rocked by scandals like the Delhi Public School MMS sex clip.

"We felt that schools and their authorities should know what goes through the minds of such kids who face social stigma and even oppression," Kaushik said. "Thus, we held a screening for 50 schools."

Kaushik said his film does not sensationalise the subject. "We want people to sit up and notice it because teenage pregnancy is on the rise in India," he claimed. "We need to create awareness and I feel our film, which has sensitively handled the issue, will help the cause."

The director is looking to team up with schools in Mumbai as well to propagate the message. "After the huge success of the Delhi screening, where principals told us they will talk to their students about the film so that they see it and get knowledge as well as face some crucial facts of life, we are in the process of creating more awareness across India," the director said. "We have contacted schools in Mumbai and we will do the same in other cities."

Kaushik said he was happy with the positive response in Delhi. "It shows that our society is maturing and is ready to face the bare truths and also do something constructive about them," he said.
