With two days to go for release of Love Aaj Kal, Saif Ali Khan has resolved a major controversy surrounding his debut home production. Saif apologised to the Sikh community for sporting a trimmed beard in the movie. The Punjab Cultural and Heritage Board which had raised objection to to the portrayal of the Sikh community in the film accepted the apology from Saif in Mumbai on Wednesday evening.
In his apology Saif mentioned that he regretted not growing his beard long enough while visiting the Gurudwara to woo a girl. The movie will also be trimmed by 15 seconds as per the board's demand. Said said that his film did not try to disrespect the Gurudwara which is a place of worship for the Sikhs but considering the legitimate demands of the board he was willing to cut the scene.
This is not the first time that the Punjab Cultural and Heritage Board has raised objection to the portrayal of the Sikh community in Bollywood. Earlier films like Singh is Kinng and Jo Bole So Nihaal had run into trouble with the representatives of the Sikh community. The board also made it clear that this was the last apology they would accept from Bollywood and would not entertain such things in the future.
